Mitigating Wet or Flooded Basements

In the winter of 2008 the City had a major rain event, where many of our residents had water in their basement. To help our residents the Engineering Department, created a Mitigating Wet of Flooded Basement Brochure. After a few months of the brochure being on our web page, neighboring communities have contacted us for the file to share with their residents. To further assist our residents wet basements the Engineering Department has created a program for dye testing.
A dye test, can be preformed on a home after the sewer clean-outs have been exposed, raised, and opened. If the resident doesn't know where their clean-outs are the Westlake Service Department, Sewer Crew can come to your home to locate them. After the clean-outs are ready Engineering Department will schedule a time with the resident for our inspector to come out and preform the test.
The dye test can take 1-2 hours and a resident with knowledge of the water issues needs to be present for it. After our visit the city inspector comes back to the office creates a report for the Engineer to review. After Engineer's review, we will send a copy of report to the resident to move forward with correcting any water issues.
