Westlake Police Department administers Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) using uniformed officers to deliver key prevention messages to students in elementary through high school. Our officer instruct DARE in the Westlake City Schools, as well as 2 private schools. The instruction begins in the third grade and continues in fifth, seventh and tenth grades.
Westlake Police Department currently has one officer assigned to DARE: Officer Keenan Cook instructs in the elementary, intermediate, and middle schools. DARE is an excellent means for teaching students about the dangers of alcohol and other drugs, and for fostering a positive image of police officers with the students.
Officer Cook also offers instruction on gun safety to elementary school students.
