Community Safety and Wellness Fair

The 2017 Community Safety and Wellness Fair was held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at the Westlake Recreation Center from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

  • The day began with a flag ceremony and a color guard of military veterans and safety forces members in recognition of Armed Forces Day and to honor those who keep our communities safe and healthy. The flag to be presented was flown over the U.S. Capitol Building with the assistance of U.S. Congressman Jim Renacci of Ohio.
  • Attendees learned how to increase personal safety and wellness, identify resources in the community, watched live demos, and chose from a variety of health screenings.
  • Children enjoyed special activities that get them off to a great start in life while having a lot of fun.
  • "Touch-a-Truck" was again a favorite! Children and adults were able to get  close to emergency vehicles, specialized equipment, and outdoor displays and talk with the crews and representatives.

Touch-a-Truck

Seeing and climbing aboard massive emergency and service vehicles is a perennial and kid favorite activity. The City of Westlake's Police, Fire, and Service Departments brought out a number of their vehicles and special equipment to be displayed outside of the Recreation Center. Staff members were on hand to answer questions and give out printed materials and special surprises.

The weather was beautiful, permitting the University Hospitals helicopter to land and explored by attendees.
