Full-Time Openings

Communication Dispatcher – The City of Westlake is currently accepting applications to fill a full-time dispatcher position. This position works under the general supervision of the Police Chief and/or his designee providing a broad range of support to the City of Westlake Police Department. This position performs a variety of technical, administrative, and routine clerical work related to receiving and disseminating emergency and routine information; keeping official records; and assisting in the administration of the standard operating policies and procedures of the department’s Communications Center. Assistant Dispatch Supervisor – Assist the Westcom Supervisor with operations of the multiple cities Fire Dispatch Center which dispatches fire and EMS equipment to emergencies, operates public safety radio system, telephone, CAD and associated equipment. Mechanic, Fleet Dept – This individual will work under the supervision of the Deputy Director and generally under the supervision of the Urban Forestry Manager, Services Administrator, Operations Manager and the Director of Public Service. Oral and written instructions are received from supervisory personnel and dispatcher. Provides safety leadership, training and direction to all Service Department employees assigned to work around the vehicle/s or equipment that he/she is working on. Community Service Officer – The City of Westlake is currently accepting applications to fill a part-time Community Services Officer position. This position works under the general supervision of the Police Chief and/or his designee providing a broad range of support to the City of Westlake Police Department. This position performs a variety of routine non-clerical public safety and clerical tasks, keeping official records; responding to citizen requests for service, community policing activities, traffic control activities and performing other police service functions within the City of Westlake. Group Exercise Instructor – The group exercise instructor will be responsible for planning and delivering safe, effective and motivating classes. Instructors need to be knowledgeable, professional, dependable, and responsible. The qualified candidate must also promote class participation and ensure member engagement. Pool Supervisor – The Pool Supervisor employed with the Westlake Recreation Center supports the Aquatics Manager and Assistant Aquatics Manager with general supervision of lifeguards and general operation of the pool. In the absence of the Manager and Assistant Manager, the Pool Supervisor is in charge of the supervision of lifeguards who are on duty during their schedule. The candidate will also assist in guarding the pool and instructing swim lessons when necessary. This position requires high customer contact both in person and on the phone, in addition to evening and weekend hours. Building Custodian – Under the general direction of the Facility & Grounds Manager & Housekeeping Supervisor. Person in this position performs manual work in the custodial care and cleaning of building and premises. Westshore Fire District Project Manager – The Westshore Fire District Project Manager will examine the opportunities, challenges and best practice solutions for the consideration of a regional fire district for the cities of Westlake, Fairview Park, Rocky River and Bay Village. The Project Manager should be a dynamic, progressive leader with the energy and capability to develop the organization into a robust, efficient, and effective service delivery system. The Project Manager follows the policies created by the Mayors in planning, organizing, directing and controlling all functions related to the project. Fire Department Civil Service Exams

Civil Service Exams:

A Civil Service test was duly advertised and held on November 9, 2013, for entry level position of firefighter in the Westlake Fire Department. Applicants who obtained and returned their application before the specified deadline were eligible for the exam. Westlake conducts these exams approximately every two years.


A list of qualified applicants is developed from those tested and is used for hiring until the next test is administered.

Civil Service Exam:

A Civil Service test was duly advertised and held on August 23, 2014, for entry level position of patrol officer in the Westlake Police Department. Applicants who obtained and returned their application before the specified deadline were eligible for the exam. Westlake conducts these exams approximately every two years.

A list of qualified applicants is developed from those tested and is used for hiring until the next test is administered.
