Full-Time Openings

Service Worker III – The City of Westlake, Ohio is recruiting for a Service Worker III for the Department of Public Service. The position will be assigned by the Director of Public Service to City facilities and property to perform a variety of skilled and semi-skilled custodial and maintenance functions. Mechanic, Fleet Dept – This individual will work under the supervision of the Deputy Director and generally under the supervision of the Urban Forestry Manager, Services Administrator, Operations Manager and the Director of Public Service. Oral and written instructions are received from supervisory personnel and dispatcher.
Provides safety leadership, training and direction to all Service Department employees assigned to work around the vehicle/s or equipment that he/she is working on.
Perform a variety of skilled, semi-skilled or unskilled tasks and administrative work in maintaining all City owned vehicles and mechanical equipment.

Building Custodian – The City of Westlake, Ohio is currently hiring for a Building Custodian at the Westlake Police Department. Under the general direction of the Administrative Captain, the person in this position performs manual work in the custodial care and cleaning of building and premises. The job requires responsible use of proper cleaning methods and materials in performing these duties. Fire/EMS Dispatcher – The Westshore Central Dispatch Center (“WCD”) is recruiting for 2 part-time Fire/EMS dispatchers. The WCD sends fire and EMS responders to emergency calls in the cities of Bay Village, Fairview Park, Rocky River and Westlake and for mutual aid to other neighboring communities. This position will perform fire/EMS dispatch work operating and monitoring communications equipment in response to fire and medical emergencies.Resumes are to be submitted to the Human Resources Department. Fire Inspector – The City of Westlake, Ohio is recruiting for a part-time Fire Inspector for its Fire Department. This person will be primarily responsible for those duties relating to fire prevention and perform a variety of administrative and technical work such as, assisting in planning, organizing, directing and implementing departmental activities to prevent and/or minimize the loss of life and property by fire and other emergency situations. This position will work under the guidance and direction of the Assistant Fire Chief, Fire Marshal and the Fire Prevention Officer. The Fire Inspector shall be responsible for directing the activities of the City’s fire suppression personnel temporarily assigned to complete specific tasks and follow the Fire Department chain of command to obtain assistance and address problems. Crossing Guard – The City of Westlake has an immediate opening for a school crossing guard. Must be able to work 1.5 hours prior to the start of school and 1.5 hours at dismissal time. Westshore Fire District Project Manager – The Westshore Fire District Project Manager will examine the opportunities, challenges and best practice solutions for the consideration of a regional fire district for the cities of Westlake, Fairview Park, Rocky River and Bay Village. The Project Manager should be a dynamic, progressive leader with the energy and capability to develop the organization into a robust, efficient, and effective service delivery system. The Project Manager follows the policies created by the Mayors in planning, organizing, directing and controlling all functions related to the project. Fire Department Civil Service Exams

Civil Service Exams:

A Civil Service test was duly advertised and held on November 9, 2013, for entry level position of firefighter in the Westlake Fire Department. Applicants who obtained and returned their application before the specified deadline were eligible for the exam. Westlake conducts these exams approximately every two years.


A list of qualified applicants is developed from those tested and is used for hiring until the next test is administered.

Civil Service Exam:

A Civil Service test was duly advertised and held on August 23, 2014, for entry level position of patrol officer in the Westlake Police Department. Applicants who obtained and returned their application before the specified deadline were eligible for the exam. Westlake conducts these exams approximately every two years.

A list of qualified applicants is developed from those tested and is used for hiring until the next test is administered.
