10,000 Step Challenge!

Take 10,000 steps a day - one at a time! Walk away from inactive behavior and join the WRC in the 10,000 Step Challenge, a walking program to help you stretch your daily physical lifestyle farther, one step at a time. Registration is $10 per person and includes a pedometer to track your progress and a personal commitment to increase your activity during the program. Sign up today and you are only steps away from having a healthier way of life.

10th Annual Dog Day Afternoon at Peterson Pool

Time to let the dogs have their day in the pool! This event will take place on Saturday, Sept. 4, at 1 p.m. Bring your dog and let him/her splash, swim and frolic with the other dogs! Many prizes and surprises are in store on this special day for the dogs. Don't leave your dog on the porch for this great event! Donations of $2 will benefit the Westlake Animal Shelter.

North Coast Challenge

The 20th Annual North Coast Challenge will be held over Labor Day weekend. Mark your calendar for Saturday, Sept. 4! The festivities will begin at St. John Medical Center with a 5-mile run, a 3.4 mile walk, a 1-mile run and a 1/2 mile kids run. For more information on the race, visit www.northcoastchallenge.com.

Diabetes Education Day

Saturday, October 9, from 9 a.m. - noon. Join us in listening to a panel of speakers including Ron Heitz, registered Pharmacist and Clinical Manager of St. John Medical Center, Michelle Hiatt, registered Dietician and DeAna Rodriguez, registered Diabetes Nurse Educator. Blood pressure and non-fasting glucose testing will be available from 9 - 10:30 a.m. To register, call 1-877-597-6348. Presented by St. John Medical Center.

Home School Fitness Program

Home-schooled children will have the opportunity to join this instructor-led program to learn basic fitness/sports skills, PE-style games, and swimming fundamentals while having fun. Younger participants ages 4 and under will have the opportunity to interact with other children while they play and explore in the gym and in the pool. This program is available for ages 5 - 15 and a separate program for ages 18 months - 4 years on Thursdays beginning Sept. 9 - Oct. 14, from 11 - 12:15 p.m.

Bloodmobile

The American Red Cross will be sponsoring a Blood Drive at the Westlake Recreation Center. Last blood donor will be processed no later than 6:45 pm. You must be at least 17 years old and weigh 105 pounds or more to be eligible to donate blood. Donors must also keep at least 56 days between each whole blood donation. The Westlake Recreation Center offers excellent personal trainers to members. Prices could fluctuate with purchase of packaged sessions. Contact one of the trainers listed below and get started today.
*Members are not permitted to bring their own trainers. All trainers must have certification and a signed contract with the city of Westlake.
