Bloodmobile

The American Red Cross will be sponsoring a Blood Drive at the Westlake Recreation Center. Last blood donor will be processed no later than 6:45 pm. You must be at least 17 years old and weigh 105 pounds or more to be eligible to donate blood. Donors must also keep at least 56 days between each whole blood donation. 2008 Annual Maintenance

Various parts of the Recreation Center will be closed during the week of Aug. 11-24, due to annual maintenance. The following areas will be closed during the specified times. Please note these are subject to change.

Aquatics Center --- Aug. 11-24
Gymnasium & Indoor Track --- Week of Aug. 11
Multi-Purpose Room --- Week of Aug. 11
Aerobics Studio --- Aug. 11-13
Fitness Room --- Aug. 11-13

FITastics Kids

FITastics Kids is another exciting addition to our special needs program. FITastics Kids is an eight week fitness program held on Saturday mornings from 9 - 10 a.m. in the DEN. This program includes strength training, stretching, Dance Revolution and stationary game bikes. Participants must come with a helper, be physically able to operate equipment, and be 10 years of age or older. For more information, contact Gina Ditzenberger at 440-808-5700.

JazzerKamp (Grades 1-5)

Boys and girls will get active and learn the importance of exercise and health while moving to their favorite songs. They will participate in various aerobic activities, have theme days and create craft projects. Please dressin comfortable clothes, bring a water bottle and a snack labeled with your child's name.

The Wright Stuff Football Camp (Grades 3-6)

Come and join former Cleveland Brown Felix Wright and WHS/Michigan standout John Kolesar as they team up to present the 3rd Annual Wright Stuff Football Camp. This camp is a two hour/day, week long program. Participants will be taught the basics of offense and defense. All positions will be covered in small group sessions. Participants will also listen to former NFL and college players speak about school, fitness and nutrition. Flag football games will also be held each day. Each participant will receive a jersey and football.

North Coast Challenge presented by Celebrate Westlake

Saturday, August 30. The 18th Annual North Coast Challenge presented by Celebrate Westlake race will be held on Labor Day weekend. Mark your calendar! The festivities will begin at St. John Westshore Hospital with a five mile run, 3.4 mile walk and a one mile and .5 mile kids runs. Playful Preschoolers (ages 3 1/2 - 5)

A camp for your younger ones, taught by Best Beginnings Preschool teachers Sue Becker, Peggy Perry and Terri Taft. Each week will include fun-filled activities centering around a theme. For ages 3 1/2 - 5 (must be 3 by January 1, 2008 and be potty-trained). Each day will include crafts, large muscle activity, academic enrichment/review, music and snack. Session themes will not repeat. Parents must attend a 15 minute orientation on the first day of each session. Max. 24. Fee: $45 member/ $50 resident/ $55 non-resident.

Young Rembrandts - Half-Day Drawing Class (ages 7-13)

Can't get enough of Young Rembrandts during the school year? We have the camp for you! Come join us for a fun-filled week of "Power Drawing" as we complete ten elementary lessons and ten cartoon lessons over the course of five days. Please pack a snack for the break. Max.20. Fee: $185 member/ $190 resident/ $195 non-resident.

Summer Concerts in the Park

The city of Westlake Summer Concert Series are held at the Recreation Center Pavilion from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. The FREE concerts have a variety of performers appropriate for all age groups. Grab a blanket or lawn chair and plan to attend. The concerts will take place on the following dates:

Wadder Wabbits

This one on one learn to swim program is available for those with special needs. This is not an aquatics therapy program, but a recreational learn to swim program. Please contact the Aquatics Department is you are interested. The program runs from July 8 through August 7, 5:15 - 5:45 p.m.

DEN Family Days!

DEN certified members can bring their parents to the DEN to workout together on Sunday afternoons from noon - 4 p.m. Come try out our new DEN Circuit Series equipment, DDR and the Game Bikes and have fun as a family.

City of Westlake Corporate Challenge

You and your fellow employees can form a team and compete against other Westlake companies. This event will be held over four days and will include a variety of activities. The event will conclude with a "Family Fun Day" for all participants and their families. Entry fee is $500 per team. Registration packets are available at the Westlake Recreation Center. Family Camp Out

August 8 - 9 from 4 p.m. - 10 a.m. Enjoy an evening under the stars as we host our inaugural Family Camp Out. The night includes a hot dog/hamburger dinner, a continental breakfast, songs around the campfire, a marshmallow roast, games & activities and much more. Bring a dish for eight to share and come enjoy the night!

Who Let The Dogs Out...
8th Annual Dog Day Afternoon at Peterson Pool

Time to let the dogs have their day in the pool! Peterson Pool will be having the 8th Annual Dog Day Afternoon on Saturday, September 6, from 1-4 p.m. Bring your canine and let it splash, swim and frolic with others in and around the pool. Many prizes and surprises are in store on this special day for the dogs. This is one of Westlake's fastest growing events. Don't get left on the porch for this great event! A $2 donation will be accepted at the pool for the Westlake Animal Shelter.
