This past year, Community Service Officer Anna Cavender and Safety Town Director Olivia Schilens worked with 168 student volunteers to teach 271 pre-kindergarten children such things as crossing the street while looking "left, right and left again," safe school bus procedures and cautions about strangers. The children visited the fire and police stations for tours.

In 2004, enrollment of students included 233 Westlake residents and 38 non-resident students including children from Virginia, Oklahoma and Massachusetts. At the end of the Safety Town summer, student volunteers were treated to a pool and pizza party at Clague Park. 2007 Safety Town Registration set for May 12
Registration for the 2007 Westlake Safety Town Program will take place on Saturday, May 12, 2007, for Westlake residents at the Westlake Recreation Center Community Room from 8 a.m. until noon. After May 12, registrations will be accepted at the Police station or by mail on a first come, first served basis.
The fee for Westlake residents is $10; non-resident fee is $15.
There will be no registrations accepted prior to May 12.
The 2007 Westlake Safety Town Program will be offered to children entering kindergarten in the fall of 2007. The Safety Town Program is a series of planned, controlled situations where a child is kept safe but still encounters common traffic problems. A variety of other safety-related topics are also covered.
