[ARCHIVED] Safety Tips for the Crocker Park Tree Lighting or ANY large event

Crocker Park Tree Lighting

The Crocker Park Tree Lighting event will take place Saturday, Nov. 20, beginning at 7 p.m. with a performance by The Toy Soldier. Please keep the following child safety tips in mind for ANY EVENT with large crowds:

Talk About Safety With Your Children: Ensure that they know what to do if they ever get separated from you.

Take A Photo Before You Leave: If one of your children becomes lost in a crowd, having a photo of exactly what they’re wearing will be very helpful for event security and staff to locate your child.

Establish A Home Base: This is the predesignated reunification site. Your children will be able to alert Westlake Police or other event staff that they’re lost who will keep them safe until you arrive to pick them up. Familiarize yourself with this location.

Teach Them To Identify “Safe” Strangers: Ensuring your kids know who to approach if they’re lost or need help is a big step in keeping them safe.

Stay Close And Together: One of the best ways to ensure your children stay safe is to never let them leave your side.

Also, we recommend arriving early and to not expect a quick exit after the event. It has traditionally taken some time for both pedestrian and vehicular traffic to clear the area.
