Local Eagle Scout creates Memorial Tree of Life

Memorial Tree of Life - Eagle Schout Paul Palmer Jr. III and Mayor Dennis M. Clough

Eagle Scout and former Youth Advisory Board member Paul Palmer Jr. III worked with the Community Services Department to create a new way for patrons to memorialize lost loved ones.

Paul connected with the Community Services Department when he joined the newly formed Westlake Youth Advisory Board in August 2020.

On October of 2021 Paul approached our team with the desire to do an Eagle Scout Project that would benefit our department….and especially our department’s mission.

After meeting with Donna, Cindi and Lydia the Memorial Tree Project was identified.

Memorial Tree of Life dedication at Westlake Community Services. With some guidance from Community Services Staff and Ben Wright from the Service department, Paul completed this project, which benefits the Community Services Department mission:

  • Patrons have an opportunity to memorialize their loved one’s name on the tree which is especially nice for people who are rooted and connected to our center
  • Memorial leaf donations are utilized to benefit our Plus Fifty programming
  • The tree itself adds beauty, color and character to our facility.

We congratulate Paul who graduated from Westlake High School this year and is heading to further his studies at Harvard.
