[ARCHIVED] Trick-or-Treating and Halloween Safety

Young Girl in a Witch Costume Holding a Jack-O-Lantern

The City of Westlake has designated Halloween Trick-or-Treating hours of 6 – 8 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31. Please use caution when driving through the city, especially after dusk.

Please keep these safety tips in mind:

1. Young Halloween-goers are encouraged to walk, not run. No jaywalking; cross the street at intersections.

2. Make sure your kids are visible to drivers by using reflective tape on their costume and carrying a flashlight or other illumination device.

3. Makeup is safer than a mask which impair peripheral vision.

4. Make sure the costume is a good fit. Most Halloween injuries are from falls.

5. Secure your pet. Numerous strangers coming to the door can cause them to bolt or bite.
