[ARCHIVED] Scammers Don't Take Vacations

Scam Squad header

Remember that legitimate companies or government agencies will not ask you to buy gift cards and read them or send them identifying codes over the phone or via email - no matter how good the reason seems or under threats of police reports/warrants/arrest. See an example of a scam letter one of our residents recently received.

Also be very wary of online sales where the buyer sends you way over asking price or includes extra funds that they would like refunded to them for any reason.

In addition to reporting scams to the Westlake Police Department, consumers can report them to the agencies listed in the Scam Squad brochure.
