The City of Westlake is pleased to announce the reopening of the Westlake Recreation Center. We will begin a multi-phased reopening of the Recreation Center subject to CDC best practices and the Ohio Department of Health’s mandatory guidelines. We kindly request that you exercise patience and respect for staff and one another to make this gradual reopening successful.
Phase 1: The Fitness Room will be reopened to MEMBERS ONLY (18 and older) at 5 a.m. on Tuesday, May 26, with restrictions in place in compliance with recommendations from the Ohio Department of Health and the CDC.
Guidelines: No more than 40 people will be allowed in the Fitness Room at a time. Workout sessions will be limited to ONE HOUR. Members will be allowed to enter the Rec Center on a first-come, first-serve basis for the first week. Once the maximum occupancy is reached, members will be asked to wait outside, using the 6-foot spacing markers on the sidewalk in front of the Rec Center.
Phase 2: For MEMBERS ONLY, the Gymnasium and Running Track will reopen on Monday, June 1, also at 5:00 am for walkers and runners only – basketball and other activities will NOT be permitted at this time. The indoor pool will reopen on Monday, June 1, at 5:00 am as well. Guidelines: 50 walkers are permitted in the Gymnasium and 10 runners are permitted on the Indoor Track at a time. A maximum of 45 members are permitted to use the indoor pool at a time.
Hours: As set forth above, the Rec Center will have modified hours of operation for MEMBERS ONLY (guests not included) for the foreseeable future. These hours are listed below:
Members: When using the Rec Center or indoor pool, you must practice social distancing and good personal hygiene (wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, etc.). Please remember to wipe down equipment when you have finished working out. You are encouraged to wear a mask. If you do not feel well, please stay home. Additionally, please remember that our staff is working tirelessly to create a safe environment for our members.
Locker Rooms: Locker rooms and showers are unavailable until further notice.
Cleaning Schedule: The Recreation Department has implemented an aggressive cleaning and sanitizing schedule for its facilities. High-contact surfaces, such as exercise equipment, will be routinely disinfected.
Moving Forward: By Monday, June 1, the Recreation Department plans to implement a registration system with one-hour timeslots for members to schedule workouts. These timeslots will be separated by 15-minute intervals for additional cleaning and sanitation purposes. The department is working to have more information on the registration process available as soon as possible.
Your cooperation is appreciated during this reopening effort and will have an impact on the city’s ability to take further steps towards greater access to the Rec Center. As always, the safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority. Please feel free to call the Rec Center at 440-808-5700 if you have any questions or concerns.
