Westlake Rec announces next 3 phases in reopening effort

The City of Westlake is pleased to announce the next phases in reopening of the Westlake Recreation Center. We have begun the multi-phased reopening of the Rec Center subject to CDC best practices and the Ohio Department of Health’s mandatory guidelines. We kindly request that you exercise patience and respect for staff and one another to make this gradual reopening successful. Note the most recent policy updates in bold.

Phase 3: The Fitness Room is now open to MEMBERS ONLY (ages 14 and older) with restrictions in place in compliance with recommendations from the Ohio Department of Health and the CDC. Group exercise classes also began June 8th. On our website, you will find the schedule and protocols put in place to adhere to the social distancing regulations. Silver Sneakers classes will still be held via Zoom for the time being.

Fitness Room Guidelines: No more than 50 people will be allowed in the Fitness Room at a time. Once the maximum occupancy is reached, members will be asked to wait outside, using the 6-foot spacing markers on the sidewalk in front of the Rec Center.

Indoor Pool Guidelines: A maximum of 45 members are permitted to use the indoor pool at a time.

Members: When using the Rec Center or indoor pool, you must practice social distancing and good personal hygiene (wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds, cover your mouth when you cough or sneeze, etc.). Please remember to wipe down equipment when you have finished working out. You are encouraged to wear a mask. If you do not feel well, please stay home. Additionally, please remember that our staff is working tirelessly to create a safe environment for our members.

Phase 4: Beginning June 10th, the indoor water features in the Aquatics Center will be available along with city-operated outdoor playgrounds. Members 9 and younger are permitted into the Recreation Center with their parent or legal guardian for the indoor Aquatic Center.

Basketball courts - UPDATED: Basketball courts are available for basketball and pickleball with restrictions. Walkers must use the Indoor Track.

Locker Rooms: Locker rooms and showers are unavailable until further notice.

Cleaning Schedule: The Rec Department has implemented an aggressive cleaning and sanitizing schedule for its facilities. High-contact surfaces, such as exercise equipment, will be routinely disinfected.

Phase 5: The Westlake Aquatic Center and Peterson Pool will open on Saturday, June 13th at 11 a.m. The outdoor facility will be open to members of the pool and Westlake residents only. UPDATE: Reservations are no longer required to use the pool.
