Westlake Mayor Dennis Clough was on hand to congratulate graduates of the Westlake Safety Town program on Thursday, July 9, on the grounds of the Police Station. This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the program.
Safety Town Director Olivia Kostecke passed out certificates and helmets to the newly-minted graduates as they posed for pictures with Mayor Clough and Safety Pup on a sunny, hot July afternoon. The children also visited the Police Station prior to the ceremony.
This was only the first group of graduates the program will see this summer. Children who were unable to participate this year due to Covid-19-related program modifications will be able to take part next summer.
Safety Town helps better prepare hundreds of pre-kindergarten children for the school experience. The program includes basic safety instruction on pedestrians, 9-1-1 usage, school bus procedures, fire and gun safety, and stranger caution. More information is available here.
