During severe weather situations, residents are advised to check the city's social media accounts for updates about how local services may be affected and for news of blocked roadways, fallen trees, downed power lines and more. Residents also may receive updates via Nixle Alerts. Below is information about some things to keep in mind when the city experiences severe weather:
ROAD CLOSURES: The city is using social media accounts and Nixle to notify residents of any road closures that may occur as a result of the weather. Earlier closures on Columbia Road and Bradley Road have since been cleared. Residents can receive real-time updates from Nixle by texting their zip code to 888777 or by following the City of Westlake's Facebook page or the Westlake Police Facebook page.
TRAFFIC LIGHTS: If you come to an intersection with a traffic light that is out or has flashing red lights, treat it as a four-way stop.
POWER OUTAGES: If you experience a power outage, contact First Energy online to report the issue. DO NOT contact the Service Department or the WPD as they do not have any control over these types of issues. You may report an outage by using this link.
RUBBISH/RECYCLING COLLECTION: Rumpke workers are doing their best given the current weather conditions to provide collection services. Sometimes residences may not be serviced because their carts have fallen over or bulk/excess trash have become buried under snow. Your patience and understanding is always appreciated.
