WESTLAKE, OH — The City of Westlake is preparing for a transformative year in local recreation, officially greenlighting two major renovation projects aimed at modernizing aging infrastructure and expanding year-round amenities for residents.
From the pool deck to the putting green, these developments represent a significant investment in the community's “Quality of Life” initiatives, fueled directly by resident feedback and long-term master planning.
A Fresh Splash: Westlake Recreation Center Pool Renovations
As the Westlake Recreation Center approaches its 28th anniversary, the facility is set to receive a comprehensive 2026 Natatorium (Indoor Pool) Improvement Project. Beginning in June 2026, the interior aquatic area will undergo a focused three-month renovation to improve safety, functionality, and the overall guest experience.
Key natatorium upgrades will include:
- Resurfacing the pool deck and replacing drain covers
- Interior painting of walls, ceiling, and ductwork
- Replacement of overhead lighting
- Correction of humidity issues and repair of rusted metal at the slide tower
- Replacement of the diving board and starting blocks
- Replacement of translucent panels at the top of the slide tower and skylights
- Additional improvements to the Men’s and Women’s locker rooms
Once complete, these renovations will provide a refreshed appearance, improved functionality, and important safety enhancements—creating a more enjoyable experience for all visitors.
Project timeline & member accommodations: Construction is anticipated to begin in June 2026 and be completed within approximately three months, with exact dates to be shared once finalized. During the pool renovation closure, Westlake Recreation Center members will be able to use the new Gemini Center indoor pool in Fairview Park under a partnership agreement with the City of Fairview Park.
In addition, recreation center members will be allowed to access the Westlake Aquatic Center during the normal annual maintenance closure, August 3–16, and may bring up to 2 paying guests per day. Members also continue to have the option to purchase a separate pass for the Westlake Aquatic Center outdoor facility, which is on sale now.
Par for the Course: The New Meadowood Golf Facility
Following a December 18, 2025, City Council approval of a contract with Town Center Construction, Meadowood Golf Course is set for a major evolution. This project directly addresses the 2015 Master Plan Study, which identified golf as one of the city’s most desired amenities.
The vision for Meadowood includes:
- Year-round play with 18 indoor heated bays for practice in every season
- A high-tech indoor training bay equipped with advanced swing technology
- Elite outdoor access with open-air and rare grass tees, alongside a fully renovated clubhouse
Construction timeline & impact: Groundbreaking is scheduled for March 2026, with a projected completion date in late 2027. While clubhouse rentals will conclude on March 31, 2026, the course itself will remain active, and golfers can continue to enjoy two 9-hole par-3 courses at discounted rates throughout construction.
Shape the Future: Phase 2 Survey
The City is also seeking input from residents and patrons regarding Phase 2 redevelopment of the course itself. Options currently under consideration include a 9-hole regulation course or an 18-hole par-3/executive course.
Residents are encouraged to share their preferences by completing the official survey online. For specific questions regarding either project, please contact the Westlake Recreation Department.
