Fireworks Ordinance Notice
Important Notice: As Juneteenth and July 4th approach, please review the following fireworks regulations for the City of Westlake.

Ohio State Law

A law in the State of Ohio (House Bill 172) took effect on July 1, 2022, allowing for the use of consumer grade 1.4G fireworks on certain holidays.

This law also allows municipalities to restrict use or completely ban the use of fireworks within city limits.

Westlake City Ordinance

In an effort to reduce the risk of fires and traumatic injuries in our community, The Westlake City Council passed legislation banning the discharging, ignition or exploding of consumer grade fireworks (1.4G) anywhere in the City of Westlake.

Westlake Codified Ordinance 1519.04

Permitted Items

This ordinance does not apply to novelties, such as:

  • Sparklers
  • Noisemakers
  • Small novelty smoke bombs

Professional Displays

Public exhibition fireworks (class 1.3) require a permit to possess, discharge or sell within the city limits.

Safe Alternative: Public Fireworks Display

The City of Westlake encourages the public to view our official fireworks exhibition to celebrate Independence Day!
