The City of Westlake is asking residents and visitors to help protect the new Parkside Athletic Fields and Recreation Center Park Fields. These facilities represent a significant community investment and were built for athletes, families, and residents of all ages to enjoy.

City staff have recently encountered litter, e-bikes on the turf, dogs and pet waste on the fields, individuals climbing on goals and equipment, and broken glass. At Parkside Fields, a glass bottle was broken against a goal post, leaving small pieces in the turf. The affected area had to be closed for additional cleanup before it could safely reopen. Incidents like this can damage the facilities and create serious hazards for athletes, children, visitors, and City employees.

Visitors are reminded that e-bikes and other motorized vehicles are not permitted on the fields. Dogs should remain outside the turf areas, glass should never be brought onto the fields, all trash should be properly discarded, and goals and field equipment should not be used as climbing structures.

Protecting these new facilities is a shared responsibility. If misuse continues, the City may need to lock the turf fields and restrict public access to scheduled, programmed activities. We would much rather keep the fields open and available for everyone to enjoy.

Residents who witness active misuse should not confront the individuals involved. For non-emergency police assistance, call 440-871-3311. Call 911 in an emergency. Thank you for helping keep Westlake’s parks and athletic fields safe, clean and welcoming.
