A quick weather note: Friday is the pick of the weekend — mostly sunny and warm, with a high near 86. Saturday turns cloudy and unsettled, with a high near 82 and a chance of showers developing after 2 p.m.; showers and a possible thunderstorm are likely Saturday evening into the overnight, so Saturday-night plans are the ones to watch. Sunday clears up nicely after an early-morning shower chance, with a partly sunny high near 80 — good news for concert night at Clague Park. As always, check with event organizers for weather-related updates before heading out.
The Big Story: IKEA Is Coming to Westlake
Get ready, Westlake — IKEA is officially coming to Crocker Park. Stark Enterprises announced this week that the globally recognized home furnishings retailer will open a small-format store in the former Dick's Sporting Goods space, bringing roughly 80,000 square feet of showroom displays, design support, and the beloved Swedish marketplace and food offerings to the West Side. The store is expected to open in Spring 2027 and is being called one of the most significant retail milestones in Crocker Park's history — a destination expected to draw shoppers from across Northeast Ohio. More updates on construction and hiring are expected in the months ahead.

The Week That Was
Big Plans Taking Shape for Clague Park
City Council has authorized a professional design contract with Environmental Design Group to begin planning a major refresh of Clague Park. On the table: a potential new outdoor amphitheater for concerts and movie screenings, upgrades to the ballfields, expanded walking trails, lake dredging and water-quality work, new footbridges, and a new restroom and maintenance building. The project carries an estimated budget of about $4.27 million, with bid documents expected in late 2026 and substantial completion targeted for November 2027. Nothing is finalized yet — final layout, parking, and amenities will be shaped through the design process — but it's an exciting look at what's ahead for one of Westlake's most-loved parks.

Westlake Community Rallies After Barrington Place Fire
Our thoughts are with neighbors affected by a second-alarm fire last week at the Barrington Place Apartments on Weymouth Circle, which damaged two dozen units. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. Westlake firefighters were joined by crews from eight neighboring communities, and the Red Cross is assisting residents who were displaced. A reminder of how quickly our West Shore fire departments come together to support one another — and a good moment to double-check your own home's smoke detectors.

Council Advances Ban on For-Profit Residential Parties
City Council has moved forward an ordinance prohibiting for-profit social events, including pop-up parties, in residential districts. The measure follows concerns raised by residents about late-night gatherings at a short-term rental property in one of the city's wards.

Sunday: City of Westlake Summer Concerts in the Park ⭐
The City's free Summer Concert Series returns to Clague Park on Sunday, August 2 from 6:30–8 p.m. with Pop Avenue, playing the hits of the '80s, '90s, and now. Bring a lawn chair or blanket, bring the kids, and bring the dog too — friendly leashed dogs are welcome. Admission is free.

Saturday: Last Day of the Library's Summer Challenge
Saturday, August 1 is the final day to log reading and activities for Westlake Porter Public Library's 2026 Summer Library Challenge. All ages can participate, with progress logged online through Beanstack or in person at the library. If you've got a few activities left, this is your weekend to finish strong.

Saturday Morning: North Union Farmers Market at Crocker Park
Start Saturday with fresh, local flavor. The outdoor North Union Farmers Market runs 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Fidelity Investments lot at 1800 Crocker Road, with seasonal produce, meats, eggs, cheeses, honey, maple syrup, and a rotating lineup of local makers and bakers. Parking is free, SNAP benefits are accepted with matching up to $25, and the market runs rain or shine.
