The five-member Planning Commission typically meets on the 1st Monday of each month, with additional meetings called by the Chairman as needed. The Commission is responsible for the planning and platting of the city for harmonious development and the coordination of streets.

The Commission may make plans for zoning the city, locating or vacating streets, and reviewing public buildings, playgrounds, or public places. They also review and recommend proposed zoning changes, public buildings, development plans, and major subdivisions to the Westlake City Council. The Commission further reviews and approves new signs, lot splits, and lot assemblies.
