In partnership with the Westlake Historical Society, the Cleveland Blues Baseball Club is taking on Spring Creek at 6pm in true historical fashion.
Did you ever see baseball played with the ball released underhand on the pitch, or a game played with 18 innings? The Cleveland Blues Baseball Club spreads baseball history by playing the vintage game, found in this link: https://clevelandbluesbaseball.com/the-vintage-game
Don’t forget to mark your calendars for Saturday, June 27 at Clague Park. The event is free and open to the public!

Westlake is launching a Most Patriotic House Decorating Contest in celebration of America’s 250th anniversary.
Residents are invited to show their patriotic spirit by decorating their homes with red, white, and blue displays, flags, flowers, and other festive touches.
Entries are due August 31. Start planning your display and help Westlake celebrate this historic milestone.

It is a simple chance to show some pride. Fly the flag at your home, take a minute to talk with your kids about what it represents, or read up on a bit of its history. A few quick reminders if you are displaying yours: raise it briskly, lower it ceremoniously, light it if you fly it at night, and when a flag is worn out, please retire it properly rather than tossing it in the trash.
Ahead of Flag Day, you can drop off old, torn, or unused flags for proper disposal at Westlake City Hall, the Community Services Center, the American Legion Hall on Cahoon Road, or the drop-off boxes at your nearest VFW Hall.
This year the day carries a little extra weight as Westlake celebrates America's 250th anniversary. However you choose to mark it, thank you for helping show what community pride looks like across our city.

The new fast-casual drive-thru coffee spot marked the occasion with a $2,000 donation to the Cuyahoga County Humane Society and plenty of community energy. Dogs are welcome too, with pup cups available for four-legged visitors.
Thank you to the Westshore Chamber of Commerce, Councilwoman Amy Havelka, representatives from the Humane Society, and Tina Ludwig from the Ohio Auditor of State’s Office for joining the celebration.

Shred-It Day is coming up for Westlake residents!
Westlake residents can safely dispose of personal and confidential documents during the City’s upcoming Shred-It Day on Saturday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Westlake Elementary School parking lot, 27555 Center Ridge Road.
A Shred-It truck will be on site, and staff will handle the documents while you watch them be shredded.
Please note: Residents may bring up to the equivalent of two standard-size copy paper boxes per household. Driver’s license identification is required. The event is free and will take place rain or shine.
Accepted items include paperwork, floppy disks and CDs containing personal or confidential information. Staples and paper clips do not need to be removed, but paperwork should be removed from binders and notebooks before arrival.
More info here.

With warmer weather here, many residents are getting back to yard work. Here’s a quick reminder:
Yard waste — grass clippings, weeds, leaves, flowers, plants, acorns and similar items — is collected by Rumpke with regular trash collection and must be bagged.
Brush — tree limbs, branches, sticks, twigs and bushes — is collected by the City of Westlake Service Department. Larger brush must be cut to less than 4 feet long, bundled to less than 2 feet wide and tied with twine or another non-metallic binder.
Please remember: bags, cans and bundles must weigh less than 50 pounds each. Contractors are responsible for removing any brush they create.

Every cone, every flagger, every flashing light marks a place where someone is working just feet from traffic. Our crews are out fixing roads, repairing infrastructure, and keeping Westlake moving — and they deserve to get home safely at the end of every shift.
When you see a work zone:
Slow down — well below the posted limit
Put the phone down
Move over when you can
Stay alert, even if you don't see workers right away
A few seconds of patience protects lives. Thanks for looking out for the people keeping our city running. 🦺
