We look forward to sharing information about Westlake’s history as part of our 250th Tuesday campaign. Did you know that Westlake’s beginnings date back to October 1810?

One of Westlake’s founding families was Abner and Rebecca Smith and their 10 children. They emigrated from Massachusetts in 1811 and were founding members of Dover Congregational Church, the first church in the area.

Rebecca died shortly after arriving and Abner married a widow, Hannah Wilmot. Together, they built a house in 1820 at 27748 Center Ridge Road, which still stands and is one of the city’s oldest standing structures. It is currently home to Bennett Family Dental.

The brick home was formerly the 1820 Gift and Antique Shop and also home to Bruce Harwood Orthodontics. The Bennett family purchased the property in 2013 and take pride in the home’s history and upkeeping the grounds. They are even past winners of Westlake in Bloom!

The City of Westlake, like many communities, is experiencing delays in rock salt deliveries for deicing. To extend our current supply, we’ve implemented conservation measures. Snow removal will continue on main roads, secondary streets, and developments as usual. However, salting of streets will be as needed and will be timed for best results. We understand the importance of safe, clear streets during winter and remain committed to providing the highest level of service possible.

As we celebrate America’s semiquincentennial, today’s 250th Tuesday post is dedicated to Westlake veterans and active-duty military.

Westlake plans to honor residents and their family members who are veterans or active-duty military with a special “Saluting Our Service” campaign. The campaign will provide those who have served with a complimentary personalized light pole banner hung at Clague Park or one of our highly trafficked intersections.

To register yourself or a loved one for this special campaign, click here.

❄️ Looks Like the Snow Snuck Up on Us! 🚧

While we're all dusting off our sleds, we have an important construction update regarding the Westlake Recreation Center Park:

The new playground will remain CLOSED until all renovations are fully completed and the area is safe for public use.

The sledding hill will be temporarily CLOSED for the short future as our contractor works diligently to remove hazards from the sled roll-out area.

We appreciate your cooperation and patience as the City of Westlake works to ensure the safety of our community and finishes these exciting new park amenities!

Thanksgiving Updates

Westlake City Council will hold a public hearing on an ordinance that modernizes how residents are notified about Planning Commission hearings.
Currently, notices must be published twice in a newspaper. The proposed change would give the city flexibility to either publish in a newspaper OR post notices on the City Hall Bulletin Board, in the Clerk of Commissions office, and on the city website.
This update helps ensure residents can access important public hearing information through multiple channels while maintaining transparency in city planning decisions.

We are in the final stretch! 🎁🚨

Westlake City Hall is proud to partner with Toys for Tots to bring joy to local families in need—but the deadline is approaching fast!

🧸 Toys for Tots: Please drop off new, unwrapped toys at City Hall by Tuesday, December 2nd. We are accepting donations Monday–Friday from 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM.

🦁 Lights for Lions: While you are stopping by, bring your broken or old holiday lights! We are collecting them for the Lights for Lions program. Instead of throwing them in the trash, recycle them with us to help support lion and cheetah conservation at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

Let’s come together to make this holiday season bright for everyone (and our zoo animals too)! 🎄🧡
